Hire a Solutions Engineer
The person who turns a sceptical technical buyer into a signed deal.
The role sits between two teams and gets searched for by neither
- Retained recruiters.
- LinkedIn Recruiter seats.
- Keyword-matched resumes.
- Templated InMails.
A solutions engineer runs the technical half of a sale: the demo that does not fall over, the proof of concept built against the customer's real data, the security questionnaire, the architecture call where a sceptical staff engineer decides whether to trust you.
They report into sales and are judged on revenue, but the work is technical and the credibility only exists if they can genuinely build. Hire someone who cannot, and the best technical buyers spot it in the first call.
Recruiters search sales titles and find people who cannot code. Engineering-led searches find people who freeze in front of a customer. The candidates worth talking to are rarely at the top of either list.
How the agent runs a solutions engineer search
It reads demos and talks, not just titles
Recorded demos, technical webinars, integration documentation they wrote. The evidence of this job is almost always public.
It credits adjacent paths
Support engineers who moved up, implementation consultants, backend engineers who kept getting pulled into sales calls. Each is a real path into the role.
Outreach about the product, not the quota
Strong candidates choose based on whether the product is worth defending. The message leads with what you have built and who is buying it.
Screening on the hard call
Your questions go out early: the deal they lost on technical grounds, and what they told the product team afterwards.

Mostly the same job under two names, though solutions engineer tends to imply more post-sale scoping. The agent searches both and any adjacent titles.
They need to be able to. Most of the job is demos, scoping and architecture calls, but credibility with a technical buyer comes from being able to open an editor.
Usually when founders are running the technical half of every sales call and it has become the bottleneck on deal velocity.
Typically a base plus variable tied to the deals they support. We will share what candidates in your market are quoting during intake.
Hire a Forward Deployed Engineer
Half engineer, half field operator. The hardest hybrid to hire, and the one every AI company now needs.
Hire a Founding Account Executive
Your first salesperson has no playbook, no brand and no pipeline. Most AEs have never worked without all three.
Hire a Customer Success Manager
The hire that decides whether the customers you fought for stay.
